This page covers the IBPS RRB PO (Officer Scale I) Mains pattern and marking. The practice tests on this site are for the other forms listed above.
About the exam
IBPS conducts CRP-RRBs-XV for Group A Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager), Officer Scale-II, Officer Scale-III and Group B Office Assistants (Multipurpose) in the participating Regional Rural Banks. A candidate may apply for Office Assistant and for one officer post, but not for more than one officer scale. Officer Scale-I needs a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university or its equivalent. The notification gives preference to degrees in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, animal husbandry, veterinary science, agricultural engineering, pisciculture, agricultural marketing and cooperation, information technology, management, law, economics or accountancy, and it asks for proficiency in the local language prescribed by the RRB. Age for the general and EWS categories is above 18 years and below 30 years on 1 September 2026.
Officer Scale-I has two online stages and an interview. The preliminary examination is objective and has only two tests: Reasoning (40 questions, 40 marks, 25 minutes) and Quantitative Aptitude (40 questions, 40 marks, 20 minutes). There is no English test in the prelims. The total is 80 questions and 80 marks in 45 minutes. A candidate has to reach the minimum cut-off in each test. A wrong answer costs one fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to that question; a question left blank costs nothing. The medium is English and the language of the State or UT for which the candidate applies, which includes Hindi.
The mains examination is also objective: Reasoning (40 questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes), Computer Knowledge (40 questions, 20 marks, 15 minutes), General Awareness (40 questions, 40 marks, 15 minutes), and either English Language or Hindi Language (40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes), and Quantitative Aptitude (40 questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes). The candidate chooses English or Hindi, not both. The total is 200 questions and 200 marks in 120 minutes. The same 0.25 penalty applies. Each test has its own duration.
Prelims only shortlists candidates for mains. For the final result, IBPS uses the mains marks and the interview. The interview is out of 100, with a minimum of 40% (35% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD). Mains and interview are weighted 80:20. Scores from different sessions are normalised by the equi-percentile method and taken to two decimal places. The preliminary examination is tentatively in November or December 2026.

| Section | Time | Questions or tasks | How you answer | Marked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Reasoning
The notification gives 50 marks for 40 questions. Treated here as 1.25 marks each, with 0.3125 taken off for a wrong answer. | 30 minutes | 40 questions, 50 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
Computer Knowledge
The notification gives 20 marks for 40 questions. Treated here as 0.5 marks each, with 0.125 taken off for a wrong answer. These marks are inside the mains total of 200. | 15 minutes | 40 questions, 20 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
General Awareness
1 mark for a right answer. A wrong answer takes away 0.25 marks. | 15 minutes | 40 questions, 40 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
English Language
The candidate opts for either English Language or Hindi Language, not both. Set in English. 1 mark for a right answer; 0.25 taken off for a wrong one. | 30 minutes | 40 questions, 40 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
Hindi Language
The alternative to English Language. Set in Hindi. 1 mark for a right answer; 0.25 taken off for a wrong one. Not taken together with English. | 30 minutes | 40 questions, 40 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
Quantitative Aptitude
The notification gives 50 marks for 40 questions. Treated here as 1.25 marks each, with 0.3125 taken off for a wrong answer. | 30 minutes | 40 questions, 50 marks | Choose one answer | Right or wrong, automatically |
This guide describes the mains structure. The practice test on this site is the preliminary examination only.
English Language and Hindi Language are alternatives. The LANGUAGE scale is the one the candidate opted for.
Candidates eligible for compensatory time are allowed 20 minutes per hour of examination. Where the examination is shorter than an hour, the notification says the extra time is on a pro-rata basis.

How it is scored
The mains total is 200 marks. The candidate takes either English Language or Hindi Language, so the language scale stands for that one test of 40 marks, not for both. A wrong answer takes away one fourth of the marks assigned to the question, and a blank scores nothing. The notification prints the maximum of each test, not the mark of one question. These scales treat the questions inside a test as equal: 1.25 marks in Reasoning and in Quantitative Aptitude (penalty 0.3125, so 40 wrong answers reach minus 12.5), 0.5 marks in Computer Knowledge (penalty 0.125, so 40 wrong answers reach minus 5), and 1 mark in General Awareness and in the language test (penalty 0.25, so 40 wrong answers reach minus 10). A minimum score in each mains test is required before a candidate is called for interview. Those cut-offs are set by IBPS and are not printed as fixed percentages. Mains marks, not prelims marks, are used for the interview shortlist and, with the interview, for the final merit. The interview is out of 100 and the weight of mains to interview is 80:20. Session scores are normalised by the equi-percentile method to two decimal places.
Tips to clear IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I
Reasoning: seating, floors and schedules
Draw the seats, floors or days and fill a fixed end first. When two people have a fixed gap, treat them as one block and slide that block. Do not place a person until a clue forces the seat.
Reasoning: syllogism
Draw the circles. 'All A are B' puts A inside B. 'Some A are B' is only an overlap. Keep a conclusion only when every drawing makes it true. 'Some' converts; 'all' and 'no' do not join into a new 'no' on their own.
Reasoning: inequality
Write the whole chain in one line. A comparison is definite only along links that face the same way. Where the signs meet in opposite directions, such as A ≥ B ≤ C, A and C are not ordered.
Reasoning: coding and decoding
Apply one step at a time, in the order the question states: reverse the word first if it says reverse, then shift. To decode, undo the last step first. Check the result on the given example before touching the new word.
Reasoning: blood relations and directions
For a family, write one line per generation and mark sex. 'The only son of my grandfather' is my father. For a walk, draw north upward, turn the facing arrow before measuring, and use the right-triangle rule for the shortest distance.
Reasoning: series, order and ranking
Position from the other end is total minus the given rank plus 1. The number of people in a row is left rank plus right rank minus 1. Under a letter series, write A=1 to Z=26 before guessing the step.
Quantitative aptitude: data interpretation
Read the unit in the heading before adding. A percentage is the part divided by the base the question names, then times 100. An average is the sum of the cells divided by the number of cells, not by the number of rows.
Quantitative aptitude: number series
Write the difference under each pair. If those differences rise by a constant, add that constant to the last difference. If the differences do not settle, test a rule of the form multiply by n and then add k.
Quantitative aptitude: quadratic comparison
Factor each equation and list every root. Compare every root of x with every root of y. The relation is definite only when the same sign holds for every pair. One pair the other way means no relation can be fixed.
Quantitative aptitude: simplification
Brackets first, then division and multiplication from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right. 'Percent of' a number means that percent times the number. A difference of squares is (a−b)(a+b).
Quantitative aptitude: arithmetic
Name the base before a percentage: cost price for profit, the original number for a rise. Simple interest is P×R×T/100. For two years the gap between compound and simple interest is P×(R/100)². In work, add one-day rates. Convert km/h to m/s by multiplying by 5/18.
After the exam
For information only. Selection, allotment and admission follow the rules in the official notice of your year, which can change.
Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager)
A Group A post in a participating Regional Rural Bank. The candidate chooses one State or UT at the time of application. Shortlisting runs from the prelims to the mains, then to a common interview coordinated by the nodal RRB with NABARD and IBPS. Provisional allotment follows the merit and the vacancies the RRB reports. Official page
Interview and final merit
The interview is out of 100 marks. The minimum qualifying mark is not less than 40%, or 35% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates. Mains and interview are combined in the ratio 80:20. Prelims marks are not part of that final score. Official page

Still to be confirmed
- The CRP-RRBs-XV notification does not state how many alternatives each question has. The CRP-RRBs-XIV Officer Scale-I preliminary information handout, for the same two tests of 40 questions, says there are five answers and only one is correct. This practice test uses five options. The XV information handout, which the notification says will be published with the call letter, was not on ibps.in on 2026-10-16. The XIV handout was read from a copy hosted outside ibps.in.
- The XV notification prints 25 minutes against Reasoning and 20 minutes against Quantitative Aptitude. It does not use the words 'separately timed' or 'composite time'. The XIV information handout for the same table headed that column 'Separately timed' and said a candidate may attempt any question within the time of that test. This practice test uses two clocks. Whether a candidate may submit a test before its minutes end is not stated in the XV notification.
- The notification gives the maximum marks of each mains test, not the marks of a single question. The mains scales assume the questions in a test are equal (50/40 = 1.25, 20/40 = 0.5, 40/40 = 1).
- The notification allows compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, and pro-rata time when the examination is shorter than an hour. It does not print the extra minutes for a 25-minute test or a 20-minute test.
- The notification does not publish a topic-wise syllabus for Reasoning or Quantitative Aptitude. The topics in this guide are the coverage of the practice material.
- The date in 'since' is the 01.09.2026 notification. It is not a finding of the first year IBPS split these two tests into 25 and 20 minutes.
- The extension corrigendum of 21.09.2026 moved registration and fee payment to 27.09.2026 and said every other term was unchanged. The qualification date printed in the notification is still 21.09.2026. The corrigendum does not repeat that date.
