About the exam

CRP RRBs XV, notified on 1 September 2026, recruits Group B Office Assistants (Multipurpose) and Group A officers for Regional Rural Banks. For Office Assistant the selection is two online stages, Preliminary and Main. There is no interview. A candidate who qualifies in the Preliminary Examination and is shortlisted sits the Main Examination, and provisional allotment uses the Main marks and the vacancies reported by the RRB of the State or Union Territory the candidate opted for.

The Preliminary Examination is objective and has only two tests: Reasoning, 40 questions and 40 marks in 25 minutes, and Numerical Ability, 40 questions and 40 marks in 20 minutes, 80 questions and 80 marks in 45 minutes. A candidate has to reach the minimum cut-off in both tests. Those cut-offs are not printed in the notification. Preliminary marks do not go into the final merit list.

The Main Examination is also objective: Reasoning (40 questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes), Computer Knowledge (40 questions, 20 marks, 15 minutes), General Awareness (40 questions, 40 marks, 15 minutes), either English Language or Hindi Language (40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes) and Numerical Ability (40 questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes). That is 200 questions, 200 marks and 120 minutes. A minimum score in each Main test is required, and the total has to be high enough for allotment in that State or UT.

A wrong answer costs one fourth of the marks of that question; a blank answer costs nothing. Scores from different sessions are normalised by the equi-percentile method and taken up to two decimal places. Reasoning and Numerical Ability are set in English, Hindi or a language of the State or UT listed in the notification. In the Main, English Language is in English only and Hindi Language is in Hindi only, and the candidate chooses one of the two. Age for Office Assistant is 18 to 28 years on 1 September 2026, with the relaxations in the notification. A bachelor's degree is required, and proficiency in the local language is essential.

How it is scored

The candidate attempts five tests: Reasoning (50 marks), Computer Knowledge (20), General Awareness (40), one of English Language or Hindi Language (40) and Numerical Ability (50). The total is 200 marks. The notification states the penalty as one fourth, or 0.25, of the marks assigned to that question, and a blank scores 0. It prints marks for each test, not for one question. Taking an equal share, a Reasoning or Numerical Ability question is worth 1.25 and a wrong answer takes away 0.3125 (the test can fall to −12.5); a Computer Knowledge question is worth 0.5 and a wrong answer takes away 0.125 (the test can fall to −5); each question in General Awareness and in the chosen language test is worth 1 and a wrong answer takes away 0.25 (each of those tests can fall to −10). A minimum in every test is required, and provisional allotment uses the Main marks and the vacancies of the State or UT. There is no interview. Scores from different sessions are normalised by the equi-percentile method and taken up to two decimal places.

Tips to clear IBPS RRB Office Assistant

  1. Reasoning: puzzles and seating

Draw the row or the floors and fill a fixed fact first (an end, a numbered floor). Cross out a case as soon as two people claim the same seat, and do not answer until only one arrangement is left.

  2. Reasoning: syllogism

Draw circles. 'All A are B' puts A inside B and also gives 'some B are A'. A conclusion follows only if it is true in every possible diagram, not in one lucky sketch.

  3. Reasoning: inequality

Combine signs only when they face the same way along the chain. A '>' or '≥' meeting a '<' stops the chain: those two letters have no definite relation.

  4. Reasoning: coding-decoding

Write the example word and its code letter by letter. Look first for a shift of +1 or −1, then for a reversal, then for reversal followed by a shift. Apply that same rule to the new word.

  5. Reasoning: blood relations

Start from the speaker and replace 'my' with the speaker's name. 'Only son of my grandfather' is the speaker's father, not the speaker. Mark gender on the tree before you name the relation.

  6. Reasoning: direction sense

Sketch north at the top. A right turn from north faces east. Cancel opposite legs, then use Pythagoras when a right-angled path is left: 3-4-5 and 5-12-13.

  7. Reasoning: number and letter series

Write the gap between terms. If the gaps themselves rise by a constant, add the next gap. If each term is about double the one before, test ×2, ×2+1 and ×2−1 before anything else.

  8. Reasoning: order and ranking

Position from the other end is total − position + 1. Total from both ends is left-rank + right-rank − 1. People between two ranks are the difference of the ranks minus 1.

  9. Reasoning: odd one out and alphabet test

For an odd one out, name the property three items share (multiple of 7, +2 letter gap, a cube) and check the fourth against that property. For an alphabet count, write A=1 to Z=26 rather than counting on your fingers.

  10. Numerical Ability: simplification

    Do brackets, then of and division and multiplication from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right. 96 ÷ 8 × 3 is (96 ÷ 8) × 3, not 96 ÷ (8 × 3).

  11. Numerical Ability: number series

Check squares and cubes, then a rising difference (+2, +4, +6), then ×2+1. Compute one more term than you need so a single wrong gap does not survive.

  12. Numerical Ability: quadratic equations

For x² − sx + p = 0, the roots add to s and multiply to p. Find two numbers with that sum and product. The larger root is the one the question asks for when it says so.

  13. Numerical Ability: data interpretation

Read the unit in the heading before you add. For a percentage, the 'of' amount is the denominator. Write the four totals in the margin once and reuse them.

  14. Numerical Ability: percentage, profit and loss

A rise of 25% divides by 1.25 to get the original, it does not subtract 25% of the new amount. Profit is on cost price. After a discount, selling price = marked price × (100 − discount) / 100.

  15. Numerical Ability: ratio, average, partnership and mixture

Share = (that part / sum of parts) × total. The sum of the values is average × count. In a partnership with equal time, profit is split in the ratio of the investments.

  16. Numerical Ability: simple and compound interest

Simple interest is P × R × T / 100. For two years the gap between compound and simple interest is P × (R/100)². On a compound-interest sum, the interest of one year divided by the amount at the start of that year is the rate.

  17. Numerical Ability: time and work, time and distance

Add work rates, not days: 12 days and 18 days together are 1/12 + 1/18. Convert km/h to m/s by multiplying by 5/18. A train passes a platform in (train + platform) / speed.

Office Assistant (Multipurpose) in a Regional Rural Bank

Group B post in a participating Regional Rural Bank. For this post there is no interview. Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination and are shortlisted sit the Main Examination. Provisional allotment is on the Main marks and the vacancies reported by the RRB of the State or Union Territory the candidate opted for. A bachelor's degree and proficiency in the local language prescribed by the RRB are essential; a candidate who does not already have that proficiency is given six months from joining to acquire it, within the probation rules. Still to be confirmed

  • Whether each Preliminary test is locked to its own clock. The 1 September 2026 notification prints 25 minutes against Reasoning and 20 minutes against Numerical Ability and does not say 'separately timed' or 'composite time'. The information handout, usually released with the call letter, was not on ibps.in on 16 October 2026.
  • How many choices each objective question has. The notification does not say. Information handouts for other objective tests conducted by IBPS say five, and the mock test uses five.
  • Marks of one question in a test whose questions do not share the marks equally in print. The notification gives 40 questions for 40 marks in each Preliminary test, and in the Main 50, 20, 40, 40 and 50 marks for tests of 40 questions. This guide divides a test's marks equally.
  • The numerical Preliminary cut-offs, and the minimum Main score in each test. The notification says a candidate must qualify in both Preliminary tests and obtain a minimum in each Main test, and that IBPS decides the shortlist. It does not print the numbers.
  • Whether extending registration from 21 September 2026 to 27 September 2026 also moved the date by which the degree result must be declared. The notification prints 21 September 2026. The corrigendum of 21 September 2026 says other terms are unchanged and does not amend that date.
  • The exact extra minutes for the 45-minute Preliminary paper. The notification gives compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour, and pro-rata time when the examination is shorter than an hour for one category of candidates.
  • When the 25-minute and 20-minute split began. This guide dates the format from the notification of 1 September 2026.
